DAY 2
When one is in a completely new environment, with craving for necessities, but won't settle with normal stuff, where do we go? Ikea of course!
That is where the journey begins on the second day of my life in Prague.
Office of ISC (International student club).
The ISC is CTU’s volunteer organization that deals with international students to CTU. After joining this club for 500 crowns, you get a vodafone prepaid card, a ISC Tshirt and Erasmus card. They also promise lots of parties and trips!
Early morning of CTU
faculty of architecture under renovation
and a weekend fair came before my sight in the school campus
look at that cheese!
THE CITY
Entrance to a metro station
There are three forms of public transportation here: Trams, Metro and Buses. Personally I think it’s much more advanced than Taiwan’s public transportation system.
Now, some pics of the city:
Now, there’s something I must praise the Czechs. They respect pedestrians! Even the taxi drivers do! When they see people waiting to cross at the side of the road, even if it is green light, they stop and let people pass! And all of the traffic lights have buttons on them. What’s more, the traffic lights makes sound for the disabled by having a higher frequency of “ te te te” sounds when it is red light, and lower frequency when it’s green.
Japanese store in Prague?
even Sushi!
Now for a formal introduction
Heidi!
Metro Station
There is a note to be made on public transportation in Prague that i think is very special. You don’t show your ticket to go on or off a metro, tram or bus. It is like they’re testing your conscience and peace of mind. There is no gate in the metro station.
Instead, they have a professional ticket checker on trams and metro stations that check your metro pass, and if you don’t have it, you get fined 700 CKZ.
I have personally been checked (I think because i had my DSLR on me, and looked like a dumb tourist), and i have seen someone getting fined on trams. What is funny is that they take so long to write the fine, that it was two stations before he finished. Any ticket jumpers with sense would have gotten off that Tram!
no ticket gates 無閘門
Ikea
First Beer Night with “old Czech style” dinner!
Having walked a whole day makes one really tired and thirsty. And in a city where beer costs less than a bottle of water, you’d be crazy to drink anything other than beer!
With another wave of exchange students coming from Taiwan, Heidi decided to take us to a restaurant near the school with good beer and nice food! HODALA!
DAY 3
We decided to get up early in the morning to visit a second hand marketplace first, then visit the city center, where the infamous Charles bridge and Prague Castle (flooding with tourists) is located.
Now another formal introduction:
Thomas 12.
What?
again!
Second Hand Marketplace
To know the secret of a city, go to it's second hand market!
Yummy!
Sorry, only dared to take two photo’s.
I’m a Shoo La.
Thoughts
After coming to this market, I learned 3 things: 1. Czech don’t speak a lot of English 2. You can find treasures in this place where people simply drive inside with their old things and start to sell it. 3. It is in these kind of places that you can see the real “life” of the Czechs, away from the tourist areas.
Castles, Bridges and statues
1. National Museum
NO!
Look at all the smiling faces
Now for some art:
A place with great ice cream!
Oh my, what do we see in sight? is this?
Noo!
It can’t be……
yep, it was the Karluv most, Czech for Charles Bridge.
A theater opposite Charles Bridge.
King Karluv! long live the king
That me friends, is the Prague castle!
the castle encompasses the cathedral, and the (white) complex below it.
After seeing all these photo’s, are you still unconvinced that Prague is the city made by artists? There will be more photo’s to come, and it is my job to convince you!
Because there is a limit to capacity of internet traffic on the school dorm. I will post more blogs & photo’s in another day!
Today was a good day for photography! Sunny, with few clouds in the sky!
Thoughts of the day:
“It is all in the details!”
All pictures taken with Canon 400D+ Sigma 18-200mm with optical stabilizer+ Canon 50mm normal lens.
Post forecast: Details and statues on Karluv most.
